Irene comes from the Greek word for peace. Irene’s Place is a house of peace. It is a space to encourage and engage in peace in all its forms. Irene’s Place is a house in Forest, an inner suburb of Canberra. The house is enlivened and enriched by the many different people who enter its doors. Much more than a physical space therefore, Irene’s Place is about community and friendship.
Studio Constantine were pleased to work with Irene’s Place on the visual identity of the project, and then on our recommendation, the prospectus and application forms for the next year’s intake.
The marque itself depicts the potter’s hands, bringing a vessel to life in the negative space, as on a wheel. It is a metaphor for both the ‘hands-on’ programme at Irene’s Place and the individual transformation each participant experiences. Studio Constantine also recommended the commission of a vase (referencing the greek style) from a ceramic artist as part of the brand deliverables and as an installation at the house itself.
The prospectus used photography to tease out the motif of the hands from the core identity. It also functions as an introduction to the new identity. A combination of mono and duotone image treatments created real depth and interest in a two colour execution.
